YachtSoftware.org is a web page devoted to sharing technical solutions and free software for the cruising Sailor.

Free Technical Solutions
Cable Slapping - Unique solution for eliminating the common problem of slapping electrical cables in a mast.
Broken Bolt Removal - Description of how to remove a hardened steel bolt that has broken off.
Installing Solar Panels on a Yacht  This is a download of a word document whose last section describes installing solar panels on the Bimin of a yacht.  The procedure is easy, requires no drilling and is good looking and professional. It can be done while at anchor in a quiet harbor.
Many More To Come - There will be many more technical articles to come so check back every now and then

 Free Software Products Summary
Solar Panel Power Estimator - The Icarus Solar Designer is an Excel Spreadsheet used to predict solar panel power anywhere in the world, at any time of day and for any type of cloud cover.   With the Solar Panel Simulation aka Solar Panel Power Calculator you can evaluate the effects of different types of voltage regulators, wire sizes, shadows as well as test an existing rig.

Wire Gauge Estimator - The cable size estimator computes the cable size required to meet a user specified voltage drop.  It can reproduce the ABYC formated tables and it can also estimate the voltage drops for more practical installations consisting of multiple runs of different size cables.

There will be many more products introduced like chart viewing software to view free charts from the government and short wave propagation predictions etc etc.  so check back every now and then.

Free Software
All software on these pages is free but donations are very welcome if the software works as described and serves a useful purpose.  To donate money see Donate.

Testimonials
The solar designer has been used by engineers to design installations around the world.  It was used in one study to evaluate the feasibility of solar power for the government of Tunesia.  In another study it was used by a non profit organization as an aid in designing a remote solar powered hospital in the Himalayas.  It has even been used in universities in Belgium for Masters thesis on solar power.

"The Icarus Solar Designer is absolutely indespensible for designing a Solar Panel rig for the cruising yacht.  Using it as guide we we able to tune our rig and double the power.  Of particular interest was the simulation of the effects of current boost voltage regulators.  We use the solar panel test feature where we can compare our actual measurements to the truth model all the time to verify the operation of our installation".  A cruising Sailor
